The product is very simple to use. I haven't used the Wi-Fi Connection just yet. Within 20 minutes of installation, the water is already hot. Just note per the manual that the display goes dark after one minute. Just touch any button for it to come back on. Question, is it okay to always keep the flex capacity water always on (High, XHigh)? I assume it uses more energy but wanted to know. Delivery was awesome from GE Direct. Many Thanks

I haven't delved into the settings yet other than establishing the 120F temperature. This was a part of a laundry room remodel, we moved from gas to electric to avoid having to vent gas from the room.

We love the extra capacity feature of this water heater and how it automatically adjusts based on schedule (using the app). The 50gal water heater can act like an 80gal one. We finally have a good supply of hot water at peak times!

It's very good and clean, I don't know about electrical usage because there was not enough time since the review request email was sent to me. So far I have indeed benefit of that extra water volume heat, it did improved my life as I have a large bathtub that the previous 50 gallons unit would not be enough, now it can get enough for a comfortable use of that bathtub. The painel is super easy to use. Hopefully it won't get bad overtime. The app is… bad. Has a lot of bad practices in that app. It requires login to the app, what means that in the future GE might shutdown their servers and the app won't work further. It's very slow to open and will stay locked (you can't do anything with any appliance in the app) until it finishes loading all the appliance list. The app crash in the iOS often or not update the latest state of the appliance. It doesn't work with Google Home or Apple HomeKit. The app is a gimmick, GE doesn't take it seriously, but the physical painel for the smart version is helpful.

I haven't had this water heater for long, so I am Not rating it's long term reliability. What I do like is that it was really easy to get connected to. I can set the water heater to vacation mode or use the feature that makes it more like a 75 galling water heater all from my phone.

I needed a new electric water heater as I couldn't get gas, venting wasn't an option. Due to new emissions standards I couldn't find anything larger than 50 gal. Hybrid wasn't an option. I finally found this GE Flex capacity. Wow. This is amazing! It can handle up to 80 gallons and truly can do everything we need.

Excellent water heater for a large home. I purchased this due to the flex capacity. We have a home that has faucets and fixtures a far distance from the water heater. This water heater lets me get hot water to the entire house and increase capacity when I need to. So far I have just had to use it in normal mode. I love the Wi-Fi features in the ability to change the temperature in the mode with my phone. I also installed a scaleRX device on the input side. This water heater replaced and 80 gallon water heater.

WiFi problem

I tried to used the wifi info to use smart features but it needs another part to plug into it and I didn't know this and the part is sold out. We also had a problem with install and GE sent us a new one that works. We reinstalled our old water heater for a week while they shipped it and then removed it and reinstalled the new one. Hopefully there are no more issues and we can learn to use all of the features.

They keep asking me for my review so here it is - I completely regret this purchase. Our water heater that came with the house started leaking, so I thought "let's see what Costco has to offer since I always get quality stuff from them". Well this isn't one of them. Our bathroom faucet, right next to the water heater, would always get hot almost instantly with our basic water heater. Now it takes at least a full 60 seconds of running on full blast to get some warm water. The kitchen has to stay on for a good 5 minutes or so before it even gets hot water. The app is pretty pointless. It just lets you set the temperature, capacity, and vacation / away mode. But right now after one rolling blackout in below freezing weather, the panel shows F17 error code (which the manual and their app give different reasons). The app acts like everything is fine with the heater, but it won't heat any water. I had to search the self-help feature on the app, and the description in the app is different than the user manual. If this were any other Costco product, I would've taken it back after a week, but since it's such a pain to drain and install, we've just dealt with it. But I wouldn't recommend this water heater to anyone. Apparently everyone else in the neighborhood with their 15 year old, cheap basic water heater, all have hot water in this freezing cold. But not us with the one month old new heater.

The ability to adjust settings via WiFi, adjust capacity and use vacation mode are absolutely necessary. We are more than happy with our purchase. The hot water amounts are fantastic. We have yet to run out of hot water as a busy heavy water using family. We do dishes, run dishwasher, all take long hot showers and wash laundry on warm and have hot water to spare.

This is a solid water heater we bought it 3 weeks ago and have had no issues so far (frankly would be concerning if there were issues at this point). But the WiFi connection is cool and gives flexibility in adjusting the water heating settings should you need that remotely.

We replaced our gas water heater with an electric water heater so we had to run electrical line and also had a plumber install the water heater.
