Our water heater arrived 2 hours after the window AND it won't work. The code is F11 which states top heating element not working. Add insult because of getting here so late, tech support is CLOSED until morning. Thanks for no hot water!!

I don't need to have all of the wifi connectivity. I tried it, but there really aren't that many options to mess with to justify having another app on my phone. However, app works, also pushing the actual buttons on the water heater works too. Water is consistent and there are no problems, just what I like.

I bought this water heater thinking that if I paid a few extra dollars for a smart one, I would save money on my electric bills long term. Wrong. The SmartHQ app that you have to use to control this heater is so lame that you cannot do something as simple as set a schedule to turn the heater off for a few hours in the middle of the night. You can manually turn the heater on and off or adjust the temperature from your phone - and that's it. My old dumb water heater had the same functionality, I just had to actually walk over to it. The horrible app is my biggest problem with this heater, but I should also point out that it arrived in an error state. The first time I turned it on, it began beeping and showed "F6" on the display. I started pressing buttons and got it to quit beeping, but I was unable to set the temperature or connect it to my phone. Luckily it was actually heating water to a default temperature, or else it would have been a much bigger problem. I ended up having to make several phone calls over the next week to GE customer service, with them telling me different things to try. Finally some one told me to press a sequence of buttons three times real quick, and that cleared the error. Weird. My entire house is full of GE appliances and have had really good experiences with all of them - except this one. Either save your money and get a non-smart version or try another brand with more capable controls.

So far so good. Replaced a GE water that was 16 years old. Nothing wrong with it, except age. It looked and worked like a brand new one. Did nothing to it in 16 years! Always replace things before they go bad.

Terrible Delivery, wrong manual included, value?

Desired non-smart unit was out of stock, so needed to buy this more expensive 'smart units'. Upgrade was not worth it. Delivery assured on 4 days and only cancelled after no-show. Took 21 days vs 3-5 promised. Came with manual for non-smart unit! Complaint not answered.

This replaced a 20 year old GE hot water heater. Install went good except there are no instructions for the wifi feature. After searching around found you need to install the smarthq app and follow instructions to turn on wifi and configure.

The Cottage Hot Water 3/18/2021

Only had the water heater for about a month. It heats water! The wifi and app are just OK. Very simple but effective for my use at the cottage. I do have to say the quality of the build is not great. The 1st one there was a leak at the cold water intake. It too 2 weeks to get a replacement water heater. Thank god it was for a cottage and not my home. The 2nd unit arrived. The overflow valve is not installed properly...it should point straight down...but mine is off by about 20 degree angle. Not a big deal...I am using PEX as my down pile so it flex's fine...but really...can't someone see that isn't right at the manufacturing site...lazy! I kept the unit as I did not want to wait another 2 weeks for a replacement. One last thing...not a big deal. Once the WiFi is enabled there is a quit high pitch squeal coming from the control board. It's in the basement and you need to be close to the unit to hear it but it could be irritating. Just waiting for it to fail...lol.

I travel for work and I've always wanted a WiFi connectable water heater. The controls are very easy to use and simple to turn on vacation mode for a specific number of days when I'm traveling for work. Then it returns to normal mode before I'm home. I love this!

This could be an awesome water heater IF GE put in some effort to develop the app. Currently, the "smart" features are setting the temperature and vacation mode via WiFi. However, most people will set it and forget it. There should be analytics for usage. Electricity saving modes. Common GE, you guys are the engineers here. Otherwise, save your money and buy another brand that has more features in their app.
