I opened the door to use this one day, and the plastic grille that covers the filter popped off and broke into pieces. My husband and I hardly ever use the microwave so it definitely wasn't due to overuse or abuse. We are past the warranty period so now we'll have to buy almost $250 worth of PLASTIC replacement parts and figure out how to replace these pieces (directions are NOT helpful). We have had nothing but trouble with GE products since we bought a set in 2018, problems with the fridge, gas oven, and now the microwave. GE customer service is the most difficult company I've ever had to work with. I'd recommend you buy another brand of appliance.

Got the exact same brand and model to replace the one that went bad within a few years, hoping that it would fit right into the space over the stove. Unfortunately, slight changes were made to the product when manufactured. The dimensions were different, and the mounting system was totally changed. Reinstallation was a nightmare.

This is a very handsome and well functioning unit. The controls are excellent, except for a too small start button. There is no LED lighting, and both the interior and cooktop lights are way too dim.

Good looking product, but that's where the good ends. Spent over $600 on this for my new home, and it just blew out during normal use. Will cost $300 to fix and conveniently for GE, it's out of warranty. In addition, the front panel covering the charcoal filter snapped within months of purchase. This a cheaply made machine with a premium price. Avoid at all costs!

Had to get a new one.

Original unit went bad. Parts to "possible" fix it cost almost as much as the new one. Decided to get the same make and model number (because of the coordination feature with the stove which was bought as a package deal) so that I could just swap the units out. WRONG!! Slight changes were made like changing the back brace, and moving the top holes making reinstallation a PAIN!!

Quality has gone DOWNHILL on same model

Our GE mic( that was the same model number) broke after only 3 1/2 years. We attempted to have it repaired, but too many parts needed to be changed. We finally ordered the same mic(same model number). It was NOT the same microwave. It was an inch shorter and thus we had to put a new bracket on and screw more holes into our backsplash. It also makes a clicking sound right after you push start and right after it beeps. We had a GE appliance person come to look at that issue and they said that GE put a beefier switch on it and that is why it makes the noise. Needless to say, it is annoying. The fan is super loud also and starts on the highest setting right off the bat. Lastly, the place where you put your hand to open it has a sharper edge(not rounded like the last one). I would not buy this mic again and when we replace these appliances, we'll be looking at other companies with higher quality.

Model has changed from earlier versions

Ordered a replacement of the same model number only to find GE has made significant changes to the SAME model. The overall size is smaller 16'" H vs 17"; the display is now White and prior it was Green; The GE emblem is all silver whereas prior it was Black and Silver. 100% disappointed, a replacement of the same model now doesn't match all our kitchen appliances!!!

Microwave filter door latch has broken for the SECOND time in 4 years. A replacement panel is $181. For a small piece of plastic to latch the door. This is a design flaw not user error or abuse from occasional use by 2 careful adults. This is 1 of 4 expensive GE Profile products in our kitchen. Dishwasher and refrigerator both leak after 2 years.

Great overall with 1 important caveat.

At the 3 year mark this microwave began tripping a breaker. I learned that one of the door switches was likely the culprit. After changing out the faulty switch, everything functioned normally for another 60 days. Now another switch has gone bad. These 2 or 3 internal switches related to the door closure aren't a huge deal to replace in terms of the cost of the part, but that a microwave presents it's own particular hazards when servicing internal parts, having it repaired by a local appliance repair shop becomes quite expensive when their charges are factored in. Overall a 4 only due to these weaker mechanical type of internal parts, heats evenly, easy to use, attractive in our kitchen that matches all,of our other Profile appliances, and have always relied on GE for quality behind the cabinet where you can't see. Hopefully GE has addressed this issue on this 2018 Profile Model and simply required these particular mechanical parts be a bit more robust under normal use with no children in the home slamming the door shut.

Overall, this microwave has worked well for me. I don't use all the features (guess who didn't read the whole manual) but the buttons to quickly add 1 to 5 minutes or 30 seconds are very convenient. I brought my rating down by 1 star because in the first 6 months or so of owning it a piece of cheap plastic broke off that caused the filter door to fall down. I fixed it with scotch tape and that's how I've used it for over 4 years. Normal usage by 1 adult should not have caused that to break.

Stopped working after 3 years. The microwave kept tripping the breaker more and more frequently, until the microwave was not able to heat at all without tripping the breaker. This seems to be a common problem with this model and costs several hundreds of dollars to repair. I bought five GE appliances three years ago as part of a kitchen renovation. Four of the five broke within three years, including this one. These repairs already cost $900. In this case, the GE repairman fixed my dishwasher in the morning; three hours after the repairman left, this microwave broke! On the day before Thanksgiving!! Overall just terrible reliability.

Great microwave - large size fits tall coffee mugs

Super Powerful Microwave

This is an early review: We have had it for s few weeks and its great. It was a replacement oven for my kitchen. It took a few uses to realize it was a lot more powerful than my old one. Cooking times are much faster. Looks great and fairly easy to install myself.

Would like to have more cooking options, especially for the Profile series and surface light timer. Glass panel should have been glass like my double oven with touch features. Clock is very bright, no option to adjust illumination. No option for bread or butter .

Entire guts of this model failed during 3rd year

In 2018, We always were concerned about GE Profile series appliances' quality. We bought our Profile kitchen appliances, Dishwasher, Gas double oven range, Over the range microwave, and French door Refrigerator. The dishwasher, Refrigerator was replaced within a week.. Refrig had scratches all over the slate finish due to delivery. The Dishwasher leaked at the diverter and was replaced. The good news was the dealer did not hesitate to replace both units immediately. By August 2021, the 2.0 cubic over range Microwave suddenly was tripping the breaker until finally the entire guts were fried.

Replaced an 18 yr old profile that still functioned but had a few issues. New microwave works great but would have been nice if I didn't have to re-drill all the holes in the upper cabinet and the back plate was the same (more holes).

Love It....but

I love everything about this microwave. It is phenomenal when it is operational. However, I have had two and both have stopped working after 15+ months. The most recent was manufactured August 15 Both completely shut down and stopped working. Thankfully for the extended protection plan we received some money toward a new microwave but neither could be servcied We are now looking for a new microwave and I really want to go with this product as we loved it when it worked, but will I be in the same spot in 15+ months again?

Door sensor failed in a few months

Looks great and works great until door sensor failed within 6 months. Still under warranty, but waiting to be fixed for almost a month now! Don't know the status! Poor customer service & 3rd party repair service.

Poor Design

I really like the features and size of this microwave, but I purchased mine 2016 and the steam from cooking which I use my vent at all times because Chef Connect automatically turns on the fan when begin cooking. The label that controls the microwave started coming off and it sticks back on once I have finished cooking and had cooled down. The buttons stop working for a period of time. I unplug it, leave it off for a period of time and then it starts working again. GE should make this same size microwave and place the controls on the side so it lessen the risk of the control panel subjected to coming off. Model PVM9005EJ2ES. I would not recommend it unless GE has fixed this design flaw.
